In the fall of 2024, a night of celebration in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood turned into a scene of tragedy, claiming the life of 19-year-old Cameran Holt. On the evening of October 27th, Holt was an innocent bystander, caught in the crossfire of a violent dispute that erupted on West Hamburg Street. She had been in the area to celebrate a family member's gender reveal.
The incident began with an argument between Devontaye Richardson and another man in a parking lot. The confrontation quickly escalated, and as the other man attempted to drive away, gunfire erupted. Richardson, along with Alexis Cancel-Soto and Daeshaun Clark, are reported to have opened fire on the departing vehicle. The intended target was injured in the shooting, but a stray bullet struck Cameran Holt. She succumbed to her injuries two weeks later.
The investigation into Holt's death led to the identification and arrest of the three men. Surveillance footage and witness accounts were crucial in identifying the suspects. Alexis Cancel-Soto was arrested four days after the shooting, while Devontaye Richardson and Daeshaun Clark were taken into custody weeks later. All three were charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.
The legal proceedings brought some measure of justice for Cameran Holt's family. In mid-September 2025, Alexis Cancel-Soto was found guilty of murder, illegal possession of a gun, and other firearm charges. During his trial, Cancel-Soto admitted to participating in the shootout but claimed he did not believe his bullets hit Holt's vehicle. Devontaye Richardson's trial concluded in November 2025; he was acquitted of murder and attempted murder but found guilty of reckless endangerment. The final suspect, Daeshaun Clark, was scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in November 2025.
