Isha Windom, a 25-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on December 11, 2018, in Round Lake, Illinois. On that day, Isha was accompanying her husband, Alvin Lee Quinn II, to retrieve their belongings from a residence they had previously lived in. During this visit, a confrontation occurred between Alvin and another individual in the home. Alvin, who was armed, got into a struggle with the other person, and during the altercation, the gun discharged. The bullet struck Isha in the head, critically wounding her. She was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, and an emergency C-section was performed at the hospital, but unfortunately, her unborn child, Avion Lee Quinn, did not survive. Isha succumbed to her injuries on December 15, 2018.
Following the incident, Alvin Lee Quinn II was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to seven years in prison. As part of a plea deal, additional charges, including involuntary manslaughter of an unborn child, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, were dropped. Alvin will serve his sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will be eligible for release after serving 50% of his sentence if he maintains good behavior. He will also be subject to two years of supervised release following his prison term.
The tragic death of Isha Windom and her unborn child was a result of a senseless act of violence during a domestic dispute. The incident has left a lasting impact on her family and community, who remember her as a caring and considerate person who loved being a mother. In the wake of her death, her family set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the continued care of her surviving child, Alvin Lee Quinn III.
