Gavin, who was born on October 31, 2007, in Carbondale, Illinois, was an active sixth-grade student at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Herrin. He was known for his love of baseball, basketball, and video games, and he brought joy to everyone he met with his sense of humor and bright smile.
