Kameron J. Dorsey, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on February 19, 2020, in Fairview Heights, Illinois. The incident occurred around 8:40 PM when Fairview Heights police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Lakeland Hills Drive. Upon arrival, they found Kameron Dorsey inside his garage, where he had been fatally shot.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Kameron Dorsey had invited two acquaintances, Dominic Wilbourn and Danayeous Macon, both 18 years old, to his home to socialize. However, the situation took a deadly turn when the two suspects devised a plan to rob Dorsey. During the course of the interaction, one of the suspects fired several shots, resulting in Dorsey's death. This was not a random act of violence, as Dorsey knew the individuals involved.
Following the incident, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to assist with the investigation. The squad, comprising more than 20 investigators, logged over 1,600 hours to solve the case. Their efforts led to the arrest of both suspects. Dominic Wilbourn, from Swansea, Illinois, was arrested on February 22, 2020, and charged with first-degree murder. His bond was set at $500,000. Danayeous Macon, from St. Louis, Missouri, was arrested shortly after at an apartment complex in north St. Louis County. He was also charged with first-degree murder, with his bond set at $1 million.
The case against Wilbourn and Macon proceeded through the legal system, with both facing serious charges for their roles in the fatal shooting of Kameron Dorsey. The tragic death of this young man highlighted the dangers of gun violence and the devastating impact it can have on families and communities.
