Abraham E. Vertiz, a 17-year-old male from Joliet, Illinois, tragically lost his life on July 28, 2020. Abraham, who was born on November 8, 2002, in Chicago, Illinois, was a student at Joliet West High School. He had a passion for athletics, music, and drawing, and was known for his fondness for Jordan gym shoes and his aptitude for math.
On the day of his death, Abraham was shot in the 600 block of Jackson Street in Joliet.
The incident occurred around 12:47 p.m., and officers responded to the scene following reports of shots fired. While investigating the shooting, the Joliet Police Department received a call from St. Joseph Medical Center, stating that a subject with gunshot wounds had arrived at their emergency room. Unfortunately, Abraham succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The Joliet Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Abraham's death. They encouraged anyone with information related to the incident to contact their Investigation Unit or Will County Crime Stoppers. As of now, there have been no reports of arrests, suspects, or litigations related to Abraham's murder.
