On November 24, 2014, Michael Marquez, a 22-year-old resident of San Francisco, was fatally shot during a robbery in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood. Around 12:30 a.m., Marquez and two friends were walking southbound on Noe Street when they were approached by a group of four young men. The suspects, described as African-American males between 16 and 24 years old, accosted them at gunpoint, demanding their valuables.
During the confrontation, Marquez did not comply with the demands and attempted to flee. He was pursued by one of the suspects, who shot him in the torso before taking off with his phone, backpack, and wallet. Marquez later succumbed to his injuries, dying at the scene shortly after midnight.
The incident, which took place near Henry and Noe streets, left the community in shock. Michael had spent the evening with his girlfriend and friends before being attacked while on his way home. Friends and family described Marquez as a kind and caring person, known for his generosity. He had previously worked at a restaurant, often giving leftover food to homeless individuals. The neighborhood where the incident occurred is usually considered peaceful, and the violence came as a surprise to many residents.
The San Francisco Police Department has been actively seeking leads in this case and offered a reward of $175,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Despite their efforts, the suspects have yet to be apprehended. The authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, as they continue to look for any possible evidence that may help solve the case.
