On the morning of April 2, 2022, Jamie L. Joiner, a 30-year-old white female, was fatally shot outside her residence in rural Collinsville, Illinois. Her 34-year-old sister, Jessica Joiner, also a white female, who had traveled from California to assist Jamie in moving out of the home she shared with her estranged boyfriend, was also killed. The perpetrator, identified as 32-year-old Adam Cobb, was Jamie's former partner.
Authorities believe that Jamie had informed Cobb of her intention to leave, prompting Jessica's visit to help with the move. A U-Haul truck and a rental vehicle were present at the scene, indicating the planned relocation.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., a 911 call was received, during which dispatchers heard a woman's screams followed by gunshots. Responding officers discovered the bodies of Jamie and Jessica outside the home, both having sustained gunshot wounds to the head and neck. A family dog was also found deceased at the scene. Investigators believe Jamie made the emergency call, as her phone was located near her body.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies initiated a manhunt for Cobb. Around 1:15 p.m., his vehicle was spotted in Montgomery County, leading to a pursuit that extended into Christian County. Approximately 40 minutes later, Cobb's vehicle became disabled on U.S. Route 51 near Pana, Illinois. Upon exiting the vehicle, Cobb pointed a firearm at a state trooper, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon, striking Cobb. Cobb was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 4:40 a.m. the following day.
Authorities recovered a large-caliber firearm from Cobb, believed to be the weapon used in the homicides. Cobb had a history of legal issues, including two previously dismissed orders of protection. Neighbors expressed shock, describing him as helpful and friendly. The Madison County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Illinois State Police, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
