Jailyn Logan-Bledsoe, an 18-year-old African American woman from Oak Park, Illinois, tragically lost her life on June 22, 2022. The incident occurred at a BP gas station located at 100 Chicago Avenue in Oak Park. Jailyn was approached from behind by two individuals, Kenneth Elliott, 21, and his 17-year-old sister, Adrianna Vanzant, both from Chicago. Vanzant, who has been charged as an adult due to the severity of the crime, allegedly shot Jailyn in the back of her neck during a robbery attempt. The assailants then stole items from Jailyn and fled the scene in separate vehicles.
Jailyn was a recent graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School and an active member of her community. She was involved with the Revolutionary Oak Park Youth Action League, a student-led group where she was recognized as a brilliant youth leader. Her untimely death has left a profound impact on her family, friends, and the entire Oak Park community, who remember her as a promising young woman with a bright future.
Following the incident, Kenneth Elliott and Adrianna Vanzant were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The arrests were made possible through the efforts of the Oak Park Police Department and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Both suspects had their bonds set, with Vanzant's bond at $1.5 million and Elliott's at $850,000. Their next court appearance was scheduled for August 5, 2022, in Maywood.
