Tom Tanner, a 40-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on April 25, 2009, in Athens-Clarke, Georgia. Tanner was a respected economist and a beloved member of the local theater community. On the day of his death, he was attending a gathering at the Athens Community Theater, where he was actively involved with the Town & Gown Players, a local theater group. The event turned deadly when George Zinkhan, a 57-year-old marketing professor at the University of Georgia, opened fire on the group.
