In the summer of 2014, a beloved East Point, Georgia, restaurant manager, Riyadh Nuriddin, a 36-year-old male, was killed in a violent act that shook the local community. The incident occurred after business hours on July 2, 2014, at Ikhlas Superb Seafood, a popular eatery on Sylvan Road that Nuriddin managed and where he worked alongside his mother.
The investigation into Nuriddin's death quickly focused on an employee, Yusuf Abdul Alkarim.
Authorities determined that the motive for the fatal shooting was robbery. After the shooting, Alkarim reportedly stole Nuriddin's pickup truck. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned approximately 14 miles away from the restaurant.
Less than two weeks after the tragic event, on a Monday night, police arrested the 27-year-old suspect, Yusef Abdul Alkarim. He was subsequently charged with a litany of serious offenses, including murder, armed robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
In February 2016, a Fulton County jury found Yusuf Alkarim guilty of the murder of Riyadh Nuriddin, as well as the associated charges of aggravated assault and armed robbery. For his crimes, Alkarim was sentenced to life in prison, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had deeply affected the East Point community.
