In the summer of 2015, in Carrollton, Georgia, the life of 36-year-old Nakita Lashawn Holland was tragically cut short. Holland, a female, was nine months pregnant and just days away from delivering her son, whom she had already named Ryder. Her family grew concerned after not hearing from her over the Fourth of July weekend. On Monday, July 6th, her sister went to her home on Bennett Circle to check on her. Upon arrival, she heard the cries of Holland's 2-year-old daughter from inside the apartment. After entering with the landlord, they made a devastating discovery. Holland was found dead in her bedroom, having been shot multiple times. Her young daughter was physically unharmed but was found covered in her mother's blood, having been alone with her deceased mother for what police believe could have been more than a day.
Investigators determined that the fatal shots were fired from outside the home, through her bedroom window. In an attempt to mislead the police, the perpetrator had spray-painted graffiti, including swastikas and racially insensitive words, on the side of the home. The community was left in shock and fear, grappling with the brutality of the crime that had taken the lives of a mother and her unborn child.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 25-year-old Tyrail Arrenzo Wynn. He was arrested just five days after Holland's body was discovered. It was revealed that Wynn was in a relationship with Holland and was the father of her unborn child. The motive for the heinous crime began to surface; Wynn was a married man, and his wife had threatened to leave him. He had asked Holland to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused. Feeling that Holland and the baby were ruining his life, he planned her murder.
Tyrail Wynn was charged with a multitude of crimes, including murder, feticide, aggravated assault, burglary, and cruelty to children. Evidence gathered by investigators included a shoe print at the scene that matched a pair of shoes Wynn had burned after the murder. The murder weapon, a 9mm pistol, was later recovered from a lake where Wynn had discarded it. Nearly two years after the killing, in May 2017, Wynn pleaded guilty to the charges against him. He was sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of Nakita Holland and the feticide of their unborn son, to be served concurrently with an additional 20 years for the other charges.
