A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served on active duty during the Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars, eventually retiring from the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
For 41 years, he dedicated his professional life to the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and Hygiene in Baltimore as a research associate, retiring in 2012.
A resident of the Baltimore area for over five decades, Dolan lived in Joppatowne, Maryland, where he was a devoted member of St. Stephen Church in Bradshaw and the Knights of Columbus in Bel Air. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen Ellen Dolan, his son, Stephen Michael Dolan, his daughters Catherine Marie Feist, Mary Elizabeth Dolan, and Theresa Dolan Hickey, as well as three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. A Catholic Funeral Mass was held in his honor at St. Stephen Church.
