In the summer of 2011, a violent act cut short the life of Gerald Shepard Bonner in Baltimore, Maryland. The 31-year-old Black man was found on July 30, 2011, in the 4800 block of Bowland Avenue. He had been shot.

Emergency services transported Bonner to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in an effort to save his life. Despite the medical attention he received, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The cause of his death was officially ruled a homicide by shooting.
