A Caucasian female known for her vibrant spirit and unwavering loyalty to her loved ones, Katelyn was a beloved daughter, friend, and a formidable force for good in the lives of those who knew her. Her passion for cooking had led her to a career as an Executive Chef, with dreams of one day owning her own food truck.
On the evening of July 29, 2020, Katelyn found herself in a situation that would tragically cut her dreams short. In a selfless act of protection for a child, she was shot, sustaining a severe injury. Emergency services rushed her to a local hospital, and she was subsequently life-flighted to the Orange Park Medical Center Trauma Unit. For days, Katelyn valiantly fought for her life, a testament to her inherent strength and will to live. Her family and friends held onto hope, creating a GoFundMe to support her recovery and sharing updates on her courageous battle.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team and the outpouring of love and prayers from her community, Katelyn's injuries proved to be insurmountable. She passed away on August 3, 2020. In her final act of generosity, her organs were donated, offering a chance at life for others in need. The investigation into the shooting quickly led to the identification of a suspect, Matthew Johnsen. He was arrested and charged with her murder.

Matthew Johnsen ultimately pleaded guilty to his role in Katelyn's death and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
