In a tragic turn of events stemming from a recent breakup, 22-year-old Crystal Williams, an African American woman, was killed on Sunday, September 6, 2020. The fatal incident unfolded in Dunwoody, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. Williams and her family were leaving the Dunwoody Glen Apartments when they were ambushed by her ex-boyfriend.
That evening, Williams, along with her mother, 46-year-old Danyel Sims, her 18-year-old brother, Malachi Williams, and another juvenile, were in an SUV
departing from the apartment complex. Their vehicle was abruptly cut off by another car. The driver, identified as Williams' 23-year-old ex-boyfriend, Justin Deion Turner, then exited his vehicle and opened fire on the family's SUV.
The barrage of bullets resulted in the deaths of both Crystal Williams and her mother, Danyel Sims. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, while her mother was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Malachi Williams sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. The fourth occupant of the vehicle, a juvenile, was unharmed.
Following the shooting, Turner fled the scene, prompting a manhunt. He was apprehended by Dunwoody Police detectives in Atlanta the following day, on September 7, 2020. Turner was subsequently charged with two counts of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. During his initial court appearance, he was denied bond.
