In a tragic and senseless act of violence, 37-year-old Shanterriah Wheelous, an African American woman, was killed in a drive-by shooting at her home in Redan, Georgia, on the evening of November 7, 2022. Wheelous was inside her Stone Mountain house with her brother, Darrell Wheelous, watching television when the residence was riddled with more than 30 bullets.
The hail of gunfire tore through the walls and windows of the home, striking both Shanterriah and her brother.
Their mother, Valerie Jones, was also in the house at the time of the shooting but was in another room and was not injured. She emerged to the horrific scene of both of her children lying on the ground with critical injuries. Shanterriah Wheelous, a mother of two who worked at a warehouse, died at the scene. Her brother, Darrell, succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital.
The brazen attack, which police believe was carried out with an automatic weapon, left the family and the community stunned. Jones expressed her profound grief and bewilderment, stating that her children were innocent victims who had no reason to be targeted. Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured two vehicles speeding away from the scene immediately after the barrage of shots was fired.
As of the latest available information, no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the double homicide.
