Sarah Carrier, a 44-year-old Black woman, was tragically killed on January 4, 1923, during the Rosewood Massacre in Rosewood, Florida. The massacre was a racially motivated attack on the predominantly Black town of Rosewood by white mobs. The violence erupted after a white woman, Fannie Taylor, from the nearby town of Sumner, accused a Black man of assaulting her. This accusation, despite being unsubstantiated, fueled anger and led to the formation of violent mobs seeking retribution.
