Alfred L. Gordon Sr., a 52-year-old police officer with the Orlando Police Department, tragically lost his life on October 4, 2007. Officer Gordon was off duty at the time of his death, which occurred during a robbery attempt at an ATM located at the intersection of Silver Star Road and North Hiawassee Road in Orange County, Florida. At approximately 1:00 am, as he returned to his car after using the ATM, he was approached by two juveniles armed with a handgun.
Despite drawing his off-duty weapon, Officer Gordon was shot twice before he could fire back. He was found in his car with his gun on his lap by an off-duty Orange County Sheriff's Office deputy. His department identification was discovered on the ground nearby.
The investigation into Officer Gordon's murder led to the arrest of two juveniles just two days after the incident. One of the juveniles had recently been released from custody after serving several years for an armed robbery. Both juveniles were charged with first-degree murder in connection with Officer Gordon's death. The legal proceedings culminated in their conviction and sentencing to life in prison on August 9, 2009.
Officer Gordon's death was a significant loss to the Orlando Police Department and the community he served. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a Military Police officer for 11 years, earning two Army Commendation Medals and one Army Achievement Medal. He had dedicated 18 and a half years to the Orlando Police Department, where he was assigned to the Orlando International Airport. Officer Gordon is remembered for his kindness, strength, and dedication to his duty. He is survived by his son and two daughters, who continue to honor his legacy.
