On a cold December evening in Baltimore, tragedy struck in the 5200 block of Denmore Avenue, shattering the winter calm. Myrus Joynes, a 47-year-old Black male, became a victim of the city's ongoing violence on December 11, 2013. In the early evening hours, at approximately 6:20 p.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through the neighborhood, a grim punctuation to the day. When the noise subsided, Joynes was left fatally wounded.
