In the early hours of a Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland, a Kenyan man's life was tragically cut short in what appears to have been a senseless act of violence. David Wakaba Mbugua, a 36-year-old Black male, was waiting at a bus stop in the downtown area at the intersection of Charles and Baltimore streets on May 3, 2014, when he was attacked and stabbed multiple times.
An officer on patrol was flagged down by a group of people who had discovered the severely injured Mbugua. Emergency medical services were quickly summoned, and he was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the prompt medical attention he received, Mbugua succumbed to his injuries. Those who knew him described him as a kind and hardworking individual who was diligently working to support his family, both in the United States and back in Kenya. In some circles, he was also known as DJ Davie.
The investigation into David Wakaba Mbugua's murder has unfortunately not led to any arrests. The circumstances of the stabbing suggest a random attack, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive in the case. Baltimore police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for his death.
