Markeith Pope, a 43-year-old African American man, was tragically killed on October 29, 2014, in Apopka, Florida. The incident occurred at an independent living facility known as Hoepfinger's Hideaway, which houses individuals struggling with mental illnesses. On that fateful day, Eva McDermid, a 43-year-old woman, stormed into the facility and shot Markeith Pope before turning the gun on herself in an apparent murder-suicide.
