Jorge, affectionately known as "Jorgie," was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, but grew up in Tampa. He was a beloved father, son, and brother, known for his humor, caring nature, and love for his family. On the day of his death, Jorge and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Brittany Snyder, were fatally shot in their home.
The incident was witnessed by Jorge's 3-year-old son, who was also present during the tragic event.
The perpetrator, Angel Luis Perez Jr., a 25-year-old Hispanic male, was later arrested and charged with the murders. Perez, who was also the uncle of Jorge's son, entered the home armed with an AK-47 rifle. After shooting Jorge and Brittany, Perez took Jorge's son and left the scene. He later got into an argument with his own girlfriend, Olivia Miller, and shot her as well. Perez then drove Miller to the hospital, with the child in the car, and called 911, stating that he was high on cocaine and asking the police to kill him.
Perez was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and armed burglary. In January 2018, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case highlighted the devastating impact of drug abuse and violence on families and communities.
