Joshua David Merritt, a 31-year-old man from Yulee, Florida, died on December 7, 2014, following a confrontation with Nassau County deputies. The incident occurred in the Pirates Woods subdivision, where Merritt was shot and killed by deputies after an exchange of gunfire. According to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, deputies were responding to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the neighborhood.
