Michael Ernest Cerillo, a 49-year-old man from Sebring, FL, was tragically killed on June 28, 2016. His death was the result of a violent altercation with his roommate, Michael Celello, who was 56 years old at the time. The incident occurred in their shared home on Rosemary Avenue in Sebring. According to investigators, Celello shot Cerillo five times while he was sleeping, following a heated argument. After the shooting, Celello wrapped Cerillo's body in a sheet and placed it in the trunk of Cerillo's Lexus sedan. He then drove over 100 miles to the Everglades, where he dumped the body near Mile Marker 49 along Alligator Alley. The body was discovered by authorities after a friend of Celello, who had accompanied him on the drive, alerted a service plaza employee in Broward County. The employee contacted the Miccosukee Police Department, leading to Celello's arrest.
The investigation into Cerillo's death involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and the Broward Sheriff's Office. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home shared by Cerillo and Celello, where they gathered evidence supporting the charges against Celello.
