Omaida Garcia, a 51-year-old woman from Naples, FL, was found dead on January 7, 2017, in what authorities have identified as a murder-suicide. The tragic incident occurred at a townhouse apartment in the Amberton community, located in the 8000 block of Dream Catcher Circle, North Naples. Garcia, along with 47-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez, was discovered with gunshot wounds. The Collier County Sheriff's Office confirmed that both individuals died from these injuries.
Garcia was found lying halfway inside a closet with blood on the wall, while Gonzalez was found face down with a black handgun partially underneath his stomach.
The investigation revealed that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, with Gonzalez being the perpetrator. A witness, who was a friend of Garcia, had been asked to check on her well-being. Upon arriving at the residence, the witness found the lights off and the front door locked. He managed to enter the house through an open sliding-glass door and discovered the bodies after unlocking a bedroom door from the outside. The Sheriff's Office continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but it was clear that Gonzalez had shot Garcia before taking his own life.
There were no arrests or suspects beyond Gonzalez, as the case was determined to be a murder-suicide. The investigation did not lead to any further litigations or law cases related to the incident. The community was left in shock by the sudden and violent loss of Garcia, a woman whose life was tragically cut short by this act of domestic violence.
