A persistent shadow of violence seemed to follow 22-year-old Ronnie Thomas III, a young man whose life was deeply enmeshed in the street culture of Baltimore. On the evening of May 31, 2015, this shadow finally overtook him. Thomas was at a cookout near the intersection of Belair Road and Sinclair Lane when gunfire erupted, striking and fatally wounding him. His death marked another grim statistic in what was becoming one of Baltimore's most violent months in decades.
