Judy Yoder Belc, aged 49, tragically lost her life on March 23, 2018, in Blountstown, Florida. Judy had fled from Germany to Blountstown with her children to escape her estranged husband, Dan Belc. After 25 years of marriage, Judy was ready to end their relationship, which had become verbally and emotionally abusive. Despite her efforts to start anew, Dan followed her to the United States, hoping to reconcile.
On the night of her death, Judy and Dan were discussing their pending divorce at her brother's house. The conversation escalated into a domestic dispute, culminating in Dan shooting Judy multiple times. Her brother, Robert Yoder, heard the gunshots and witnessed Dan holding a handgun. Dan then fled the scene with Judy's body in the trunk of his car and later surrendered to authorities, confessing to the crime.
Dan Belc was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During the trial, he claimed that he "snapped" after Judy revealed that two of their children were fathered by another man.
