Dave George, a 47-year-old male, was tragically killed on April 4, 2018, in Tampa, Florida. Dave George owned a popular car wash on East Lake Avenue in Tampa. On the day of his death, he was gunned down by Dwayne McGriff, a 31-year-old black male, who was known to him. The incident occurred at Unique Auto Detailing, where McGriff rode a bicycle up to the shop and shot George in the parking lot.
Surveillance footage captured part of the shooting, showing McGriff approaching George's grey truck before quickly fleeing the scene. George was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The motive behind the shooting was initially unclear, but it was later revealed that McGriff believed George and his cousin, Elvin Joseph, were informants in the neighborhood. This suspicion led McGriff to seek revenge, resulting in the fatal shooting of George. McGriff was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was found at Tampa International Airport's rental car area and taken into custody without incident.
During the trial, George's fiancée, Ashley Mobley, testified about the impact of his death on their family, including their four children. She recounted the heartbreaking moment she had to tell their children that their father had become an angel. Mobley attended every day of the trial, seeking justice for her fiancé. McGriff was ultimately convicted of George's murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, his legal troubles did not end there. Prosecutors also charged McGriff with the murder of George's cousin, Elvin Joseph, who was killed between 2016 and 2017.
