On March 30, 2019, J'Martin Hixon, a 14-year-old African American male, was tragically killed in Lehigh Acres, Florida. The incident occurred around 7:01 p.m. at the intersection of Cedartree Avenue and Centennial Boulevard. J'Martin had arranged to meet the buyer of an item he posted online. During the exchange, one of the two males he met brandished a firearm and shot J'Martin. In the ensuing gunfire, J'Martin returned fire, striking one of the assailants.
Unfortunately, J'Martin succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation, led by the Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit, quickly identified and arrested two suspects: Lamartine Malbranche, aged 15, and Jerry Murassaint, aged 16. Both suspects were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Robbery with a Firearm, and Murder while Engaged in Certain Felony Offense. Additionally, Jerry Murassaint faced charges of Tampering or Destroying Evidence. The investigation revealed that the suspects had planned to rob J'Martin during the arranged meet-up.
