Kollin Felton, a 26-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on January 9, 2020, in Jacksonville, Florida. Felton was riding his newly purchased dirt bike in the Lackawanna neighborhood when he was pursued by a newer-model Dodge Ram truck. The driver of the truck fired at Felton multiple times, hitting him at least 15 times. The incident occurred at the intersection of Edison Avenue and Cherokee Street.
Despite the efforts of nearby bicyclists who tried to assist him, Felton succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Felton's grandmother, Rebecca Highsmith, shared that Kollin had been working on improving his life after previously being involved with the wrong crowd. She remembered him as a kind and smart individual who frequently checked on her and helped with groceries. Felton also left behind a three-month-old son, Kollin Jr. The family was devastated by the loss, with Highsmith expressing her hope that the person responsible would turn themselves in.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the shots-fired call at 1:24 p.m. and found Felton with multiple gunshot wounds. Surveillance footage showed Felton being chased by the black Ram truck, which had a large white sticker on the back window. The truck was seen stopping briefly after Felton's motorcycle went down before speeding away from the scene. The police investigation into the murder is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
