Kevin McCarthy, a 50-year-old white male, was found dead on March 28, 2021, at the Wekiva Falls Resort in Sorrento, Florida. His death was the result of a murder-suicide involving his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Nathan, a 56-year-old white female. The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at around 8:16 a.m., where they discovered McCarthy's body in a chair with gunshot wounds. Nathan was found approximately 50 feet away, face down on the ground with a .357-Magnum revolver next to her, which appeared to have been used in a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation revealed that McCarthy and Nathan had been in an on-and-off relationship. McCarthy had been staying with a friend at the RV park, located a few lots away from Nathan's RV, following their breakup. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots around 5 a.m. on the day of the incident. McCarthy was last seen alive around 1:30 a.m., drinking beer near a firepit with Nathan's daughter and a friend. Nathan's daughter left the park around 2:30 a.m. after an argument with her mother about spending time with McCarthy.
There were no arrests or ongoing litigations related to McCarthy's death, as the case was classified as a murder-suicide. The Lake County Sheriff's Office concluded that Nathan shot McCarthy before turning the gun on herself. The incident was a tragic end to a tumultuous relationship, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
