Maryanne Descalso, age 58, was found deceased in San Francisco's Tenderloin district on December 18, 2015. Her body was discovered in the early morning hours on the 400 block of Ellis Street, located between Leavenworth and Jones Streets. She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office has not released a conclusive cause of death, and at the time of the investigation, the specific weapon used in her death was still undetermined. San Francisco Police have confirmed that her death is being investigated as a homicide, though no arrests have been made, and there are no publicly identified suspects in the case as of now.

Maryanne Descalso's death marked one of two homicides that occurred in San Francisco on that same day, which were the city's 50th and 51st homicides for the year 2015. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information regarding this case to contact the San Francisco Police Department's Homicide Unit. Despite extensive efforts by the police, including an ongoing open investigation, no further developments or suspects have been publicly reported.

The homicide in the Tenderloin district, along with other deaths that year, underscored a concerning rise in violent crime in San Francisco compared to previous years. The 2015 homicide count in San Francisco was one of the highest in recent years, highlighting the persistent issues with violence in some neighborhoods, including the Tenderloin, which has historically been one of the more crime-prone areas of the city.
