Jaquan Janario Robinson, a 22-year-old resident of Fort White, Florida, tragically lost his life on December 9, 2022, in Alachua, Florida. The incident occurred at the One 51 Apartments on NW 150th Road. According to reports, the fatal event was the result of a drug transaction gone wrong. Robinson was shot multiple times during the altercation and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to UF Health Shands Hospital.
The investigation into Robinson's death led to the arrest of
two individuals. The first suspect, Lacorrin Raheem Calhoun, 20, was apprehended on December 22, 2022. Calhoun was identified as the primary aggressor in the shooting. He was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The second suspect, Franklin George Richardson, 20, was arrested on March 21, 2023. Richardson was charged with third-degree murder-not premeditated during another felony and conspiracy to purchase a controlled substance. The investigation revealed that Richardson had driven Calhoun to the location of the shooting to conduct the drug transaction and had a higher level of involvement and knowledge of the murder.
Further details from the investigation indicated that Calhoun had faked a Cash App transaction to obtain narcotics from Robinson. When Robinson attempted to retrieve the narcotics, Calhoun shot him multiple times. An informant, who had no prior relation to the suspects or the victim, provided crucial information that led to the arrests. The informant revealed that Richardson had agreed to assist Calhoun in the narcotics robbery and was armed with a gun, stating he would shoot Robinson if he resisted.
Both suspects were booked into the Alachua County Jail, with Richardson held on a $550,000 bond. The case highlights the dangers associated with illegal drug transactions and the severe consequences that can arise from such activities. The arrests and subsequent charges brought some measure of justice for Robinson's untimely death, though the loss remains a profound tragedy for his family and community.
