Carleton J. Bruce, a 36-year-old officer with the Chico Police Department, tragically lost his life on February 22, 1938, while responding to a disturbance call at a local restaurant in Chico, California. Officer Bruce, along with his partner Officer Tom Jones, was dispatched to Joe's Tamale Parlor following reports of a man brandishing a .30-.30 rifle.
