Eduardo Cañedo Vela, a 33-year-old Latino male, was tragically killed on April 29, 1992, in Ladera Heights, California. Vela, who was a manager at a Japanese restaurant in Bakersfield, had traveled to Los Angeles to help a friend cash a tax refund. Unbeknownst to him, this day coincided with the outbreak of the Los Angeles riots, a period of intense civil unrest following the acquittal of four LAPD officers involved in the beating of Rodney King.
