In the winter of 2017, a life was tragically cut short in Baltimore, Maryland. George Cookson, a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed on January 19th of that year. His death was not a random act of violence but a calculated execution connected to the city's unforgiving drug trade.
The investigation into Cookson's murder led authorities to a violent and notorious street gang known as the Black Guerilla Family.
Evidence presented in court would later reveal that a member of this gang, Wesley McCants, was responsible for Cookson's death. The motive behind the killing was a drug debt that McCants was attempting to collect on behalf of an associate.
During McCants' sentencing for federal racketeering and drug conspiracy charges, the court found that he had shot and killed George Cookson. The weapon used in the murder was later discovered hidden in a vehicle parked at the home of McCants' associate, the same location where McCants was eventually apprehended. For his role in the murder of George Cookson and his extensive involvement in the violent activities of the Black Guerilla Family, Wesley McCants was sentenced to life in prison.
