On March 15, 2017, Montell "Telly" Pridgett, a 24-year-old up-and-coming boxer from Baltimore, was shot and killed on Pennsylvania Avenue, near Mosher Street. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Pridgett was reportedly involved in a dispute that escalated, leading to his fatal shooting. Pridgett, who had recently been training at the Upton Boxing Center, was considered to have a bright future in professional boxing, making his death particularly tragic for the community.
