In a tragic end to a decade of struggle, 29-year-old Lyndon Jr Waddell, a male resident of Northeast Baltimore, succumbed to injuries that had plagued him for ten years. His death on April 8, 2017, was the final chapter in a painful story that began on January 5, 2007. On that day, at the age of 19, Waddell was found in critical condition on Carswell Street, having been shot in the back.
The gunshot wound left him paralyzed, a condition he would live with for the remainder of his life.
Ten years later, in April 2017, Waddell was readmitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital due to an infection. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead on April 8. Following his death, the Medical Examiner's Office conducted an investigation and, on July 5, 2017, officially ruled his death a homicide. They concluded that Waddell had died as a direct result of the injuries he sustained in the 2007 shooting.
The Baltimore Police Department's investigation into the original shooting in 2007 remains open.
