Jacob Velasquez, a 24-year-old resident of Oakland, California, was tragically shot and killed on March 5, 2014. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. in the 2500 block of 11th Avenue, near Bella Vista Elementary School. Velasquez was found shot multiple times inside a sports utility vehicle. The case took a significant turn when Jonathan Rhone, a longtime friend of Velasquez, was arrested and charged with his murder.
Rhone, who had known Velasquez for about ten years, initially denied being the shooter and claimed another suspect was responsible. However, he later admitted to removing Velasquez from the SUV and attempting to destroy evidence by cleaning up the blood and disposing of shell casings.
