On the night of September 22, 2017, tragedy struck in Baltimore when 43-year-old Kevin Bailey was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 11:16 p.m. in the 4300 block of Reistertown Road. Despite the efforts of first responders, Bailey succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
For months, the case remained under investigation by the Baltimore Police Department.

In April 2018, authorities announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with Bailey's murder. Twenty-five-year-old David Murray was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and weapons violations for his alleged role in the shooting death of Kevin Bailey. Following his arrest, Murray was held without bail.
