Mario Padilla, aged 34, was tragically killed on February 8, 2015, in Montclair, California. The incident occurred in a detached garage located in the 11000 block of Monte Vista Avenue. Padilla, along with Livied Arturo Sanchez, 33, of West Covina, was found bound with duct tape and shot execution-style. The investigation into the double homicide revealed that a third man, Edgar Rivera Calderon, managed to escape the assailants despite being bound with duct tape. Calderon fled southward down Monte Vista Avenue, bleeding and terrified. His escape and subsequent survival provided crucial information to the authorities. The Montclair Police Department, led by Homicide Sergeant Bryon Kelly, utilized witness statements and technical assets to identify the suspects involved in the murders.
Two suspects were eventually apprehended in connection with the killings. Richard Corry Roach, 37, was arrested on August 13, 2015, at the Riverside Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Fugitive Recovery Task Force. Roach waived extradition and was transported to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. The second suspect, David Nash McKell, 35, was already in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail for an unrelated homicide when he was identified as a suspect in the Montclair murders. Both Roach and McKell were charged with the execution-style murders of Padilla and Sanchez.
