Jamie Dawn Shipman, a 57-year-old resident of Mendocino, California, was found dead on May 23, 2017, at her home on Caspar Little Lake Road. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office initially treated the incident as a suspicious death, but it was later classified as a homicide. The investigation revealed that Shipman had been shot, and her vehicle, a 2009 Chevy HHR with a custom paint job, was missing from the scene.
