Gabriel Shea Carlos, a 16-year-old from Duarte, California, was tragically shot and killed on June 2, 2017. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in the 400 block of Shrode Avenue, a residential area in Mayflower Village. Deputies responded to reports of gunshots around 1:30 a.m. and found Gabriel lying in a driveway just two houses away from his grandmother's home. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:40 a.m., having suffered at least one gunshot wound to his torso.

Gabriel, who went by his middle name Shea, lived in Arcadia but frequently visited family in Duarte. On the night of his death, he had attended a party with his longtime friend Michael Shane. After the party, Gabriel mentioned needing to stop by a house on his grandmother's street to pick something up. When he didn't return, Michael called his sister, who arranged for a taxi to take him home. It was only later that Michael realized the "fireworks" he heard that night were likely the gunshots that killed his friend.

The investigation into Gabriel's death revealed no immediate suspects or clear motive. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated that the shooting did not appear to be gang-related. Gabriel had recently transferred from Duarte High School to Mount Olive Alternative Education school and had just started his first job two weeks prior to his death. His family and friends described him as a good kid who was in the process of bettering himself, despite having been mixed up in some bad situations.

As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with Gabriel's murder. The case remains unsolved, and investigators continue to seek information from the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers to provide anonymous tips. The community and Gabriel's loved ones continue to hope for justice and closure in this tragic case.
