Raymon Hernandez Jr., a 30-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on July 22, 2017, in Del Aire, California, a community just outside of Hawthorne. The incident occurred at the Game Sports Bar located on Inglewood Avenue. According to reports, an argument broke out inside the bar around 1:45 a.m., which escalated into a physical altercation in the parking lot.
Although it remains unclear what initially sparked the argument or whether Hernandez was directly involved, the situation quickly turned violent. During the fight, a man pulled out a gun and fired shots into the air, causing people to scatter. The suspect then directed his attention towards Hernandez, firing multiple times and striking him once. Hernandez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that evening.
The investigation into Hernandez's death led to the arrest of four individuals: Doris Stephanie Avila, Sergio Ramos, Robert Soto, and Pedro Yanez. All four were charged with murder and attempted murder shortly after the incident. The suspects were apprehended in the Lennox area, approximately four miles north of the bar, later that morning. The authorities have not disclosed which of the defendants is believed to have fired the fatal shot, as witness interviews were still ongoing at the time. The suspects were scheduled to be arraigned at the L.A. County Superior Court's Torrance courthouse on August 9, 2017.
The case drew significant attention from the community and law enforcement, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation highlighted the dangers of escalating violence in public spaces and the tragic consequences that can result from such altercations. Hernandez's death serves as a somber reminder of the impact of gun violence and the importance of thorough investigations to bring justice to the victims and their families.
