Tristan Thomas Beaudette, a 35-year-old research scientist from Irvine, California, was tragically shot and killed on June 22, 2018, while camping with his two young daughters at Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas. In January 2019, Anthony Rauda, a 43-year-old parolee with a history of weapons-related offenses, was charged with Beaudette's murder. Rauda was also charged with ten counts of attempted murder, including charges related to Beaudette's daughters, and five counts of second-degree commercial burglary. Rauda's criminal activities were extensive, with allegations of shooting into vehicles and committing burglaries in the Malibu area. He was arrested in October 2018 after a series of manhunts, during which he was found carrying a rifle and wearing tactical gear.
Rauda's defense team attempted to have the charges dismissed, but Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo rejected the request, allowing the case to proceed to trial. Rauda pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison. The case against Rauda is built on a combination of physical evidence, including surveillance footage and forensic analysis, as well as his prior criminal record.
