Paul Sepulveda Garibaldi, a 41-year-old Latino, was tragically shot and killed on September 12, 2018, in the Harvard Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when Garibaldi and another man were walking in an alley on the 5900 block of South Denker Avenue. A light-colored sedan approached them, and a person exited the backseat, opening fire on the two men.
Garibaldi was struck by the gunfire and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:33 p.m. The other man, who was also shot, survived the attack.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was nearby and overheard the shooting. They pursued the vehicle, leading to the arrest of Marlon Miller, a 36-year-old black man, who was identified as the shooter. Miller was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, with additional gun and gang allegations. Despite the gang-related charges, it was noted that Garibaldi himself was not a gang member. Miller also faced charges for possession of a firearm by a felon.
The driver of the vehicle managed to escape initially but was later identified by the police. Two days after the shooting, the police served a search warrant at the driver's home. During the search, the driver, a 28-year-old black man, fatally shot himself. This tragic turn of events added another layer of complexity to the case.
Miller's legal proceedings continued, with his next court appearance scheduled for November 2, 2018. The case drew significant attention, and the LAPD urged anyone with additional information to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers.
