Ayo Hullett, a 27-year-old resident of San Bernardino, California, tragically lost his life on October 12, 2019. The incident occurred during a family barbecue at his home on Rainbow Lane. The gathering, which included Ayo's girlfriend Eliesha, their children, and some friends and family members, took a violent turn after Eliesha accused Ayo of having an affair with a friend who had accompanied him to a liquor store. This accusation led to a series of confrontations and physical altercations involving Eliesha, her brother Kenneth Jerai Easley, and other attendees.
As tensions escalated, Eliesha called her brother, Kenneth Jerai Easley, who arrived with two cousins. A physical fight broke out between Eliesha and one of the cousins, which spilled onto the street. Another altercation ensued between the cousin and the friend who had gone to the store with Ayo. Amidst the chaos, Ayo attempted to leave the scene with his mother, aunt, and children. However, Eliesha grabbed Ayo by his hair, leading to a struggle on the sidewalk. Ayo's sister tried to intervene, but Eliesha, being physically larger, overpowered her and began hitting Ayo.
During this tumultuous scene, Kenneth Jerai Easley approached Ayo from behind and, after warning him not to touch his sister, shot him in the head. A neighbor who witnessed the incident and performed CPR on Ayo later testified in court, identifying Easley as the shooter. The neighbor recounted hearing Easley’s warning and seeing him point an object at Ayo before the fatal shot was fired. Despite efforts to save him, Ayo succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital.
The investigation led to the arrest of Kenneth Jerai Easley, who was charged with Ayo Hullett's murder. Easley was convicted by a jury on December 7, 2020, and subsequently sentenced to 40 years-to-life in prison on January 28, 2021. The case highlighted the devastating impact of domestic disputes and the tragic consequences of violence. Ayo's death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends, who continue to mourn his loss while seeking justice for the senseless act that took his life.
