Michael Patrick McHugh, an 83-year-old resident of Temple City, California, tragically lost his life on April 24, 2020. John McHugh, aged 52 at the time, was arrested at the scene and subsequently booked on suspicion of murder. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau, John McHugh was detained and taken to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, where he was held in lieu of $2.03 million bail. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged John McHugh with one count of murder and one count of buying or receiving a firearm with a temporary restraining order, protective order, or injunction against him. If convicted of all charges, John McHugh faced a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.
In January 2025, John McHugh pleaded no contest to second-degree murder just as his trial was about to begin. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison.
