On that fateful evening, a group of individuals had gathered along the creek bed near Highway 99W when shots were fired. The ensuing chaos resulted in the deaths of Juan Manuel Valencia Vargas and another young man, 22-year-old Edgar Alejandro Villa Valencia. Both victims succumbed to gunshot wounds to the torso. Friends of Juan Manuel Valencia Vargas attempted to save his life by transporting him to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Meanwhile, Edgar Alejandro Villa Valencia was found deceased at the scene, approximately 200 yards from the initial location of the shooting.

Roberto Valencia, a 27-year-old resident of Corning, has been named as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Roberto Valencia, charging him with murder.
