Davon Lee Pledger, a 26-year-old Black man, was tragically shot and killed on May 9, 2020, in Pacoima, Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records, the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on the 13200 block of Cornelius Street. Pledger was standing outside a friend's house when three males in a dark-colored sedan drove up, exited the vehicle, and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
Pledger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) launched an investigation into Pledger's murder, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence. At a news conference held on August 19, 2020, a $50,000 reward was announced for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Pledger's death. His mother, Geraldine Lang, spoke emotionally about her son, describing him as "the kindest person ever" and emphasizing that he was not gang-affiliated. She urged anyone with information to come forward, highlighting the impact of the loss on their family, especially Pledger's two young children.
The investigation revealed that Pledger was likely an unintended target in an area with a history of gang violence. Surveillance footage and witness accounts indicated that a dark-colored, four-door Honda Civic was involved in the shooting. The LAPD's Valley Bureau homicide detectives believe that three men exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at Pledger, with emergency calls reporting hearing 15 to 20 rounds. Despite the efforts to gather information and the reward offered, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
